Had the pleasure of playing Sand Valley yesterday. The course is on an amazing piece of property and was reminiscent of Bandon Dunes. It was interesting to see the progress being made on Mammonth Dunes as we played. The second course will open in 2018. The really cool part was while we were at dinner at a local Supper Club, we ran into David McLay Kidd (the designer of Mammouth Dunes - also designed Bandon Dunes and the Castle Course at St Andrews among other course). We had a nice conversation with him and he was telling us how during the course of the day he had the shapers completely redesign a hole (#4 - 225 yard par 3 from the tips) 4 times as it was just not fitting his eye. This was a really cool experience to hear from a great golf course architect the process and thoughts that go into the design of a hole.

If you are in the area I would definitely recommend adding it to your list of courses to play.
