The Golf Courses of Lawsonia, WI

    Just wondering if anyone else here has played either of the courses at Lawsonia. I’ve only got time for one round while passing through and am planning to play the Links course. Hopefully that’s the right call between the two courses... Anything I should know about one of the higher rated courses in Wisconsin not named Whisting Straits or Erin Hills?

    You can't go wrong with either track, but I am a huge fan of the links course at Lawsonia. Depending on what area you are in some of my favorite higher end courses are Black Wolf Run (part of the Straits family), The Bull at Pinehurst Farms, Sand Valley, SentryWorld, and University Ridge.

    All good recommendations. I'd add the following Kohler properties - The Irish and The Meadow. If you know someone that can get you onto private courses, Blue Mound and Milwaukee Country Club are great plays as well.

    Sand Valley is a great play and they just opened 9 of the 18 holes on the sister course, Mammoth Dunes.

    For courses around Lawson is also check out mascoutin golf course. I have never played lawsonia but I have heard the links course is the better golf course and the woodlands is more scenic.

    If you wanted to keep reasonable price and can travel a little bit the bull at pinehurst farms is a great course so is Blackwood but that is up there in price. The others that Lsmith stated are great but farther away.

    If you are down by the Milwaukee area brown deer golf course and Washington county golf course are both decent courses.

    Thanks for the insights! Yeah, my wife and I are headed out to Door County for a long weekend and me tying to squeeze more than one round out of this trip (or detouring too far out it the way) would likely push her over the edge, but many of the ones you mentioned are on the bucket list for when I get back in the area.

    Check out Horseshoe Bay while in Door County. It is a great layout and I play it several times a summer when visiting my parents in Door County.

    Royal St. Patrick Links between Appleton & Green Bay is another option. I'd trust Tyler.

    Being from Wisconsin, I have played most of the above courses. When in Door County the Peninsula Course and the Orchards Course are a must!

    We walked around Peninsula State Park in Door County and the Peninsula Course in the Northeast corner of the park looked like a neat track with some great views. I can see there are lots of great courses in the area that I just didn't have time for, but Lawsonia Links was truly special so I'm glad I was able to play there. Maybe I'll write up a review with some photos when I get a chance. Thank you all for the great recommendations for next time :)
