I check my clubs with Delta. I am lucky that I travel (a lot) for work and my bags fly free. When planning a golf trip with my wife her clubs fly free as well. I wouldn’t pay to ship them.

Don't like shipping because you have to get rid of your clubs a few days earlier than departure. As long as your time between flights isn't too short the clubs should make second leg.

I've flown Delta into Dublin and London (Heathrow) with clubs. Numerous times within the continental US. Never had an issue. I wouldn't expect an issue flying into and from larger airports. Some of the smallest jets/turbo-prop flights may have space issues.

I'd ship them going over. If clubs are lost, no guarantee that you'll get them back in 2 days. By the way, are you using ShipSticks? Just wondering.

Jerry, like most of these guys, I just travel with mine as luggage as opposed to advanced shipping. I find it cheaper and usually easier to manage although at times the dragging of bags between the terminal and the rent car facility can be a bit rough. If there is a problem with them missing a flight, I want to be able to deal directly with the airline ASAP as opposed to finding out at the hotel or host golf facility. I do try to find non-stop flights as much as possible to minimize the opportunity for them to miss a connection. I also almost always use the hard case for multiple leg flights to minimize the chance of clubs getting damaged with all the extra loading and unloading. Another nice feature with my frequent flyer airlines is the ability to see bag status right on my phone app. I know if they are actually loaded on the plane before it takes off. Whatever your options, make sure you have a back-up plan. Find a local shop that does rentals or verify that the place you are playing has rentals just in case. Better to struggle with a set you don't like than to miss out altogether on golf that day. Also, verify that your homeowners insurance and/or travel insurance along with the airlines liability policy will cover all damages, delays, and/or loss if needed. Hopefully none of this will be necessary and your trip will go without a glitch. Happy and safe travels!

I am a Frequest Flyer with Delta and have a AEX gold card, I take my clubs as my free bag as long as I keep the weight under 50 lbs. I have a hard case that falls within the dimensions for luggage. Use a lightweight carry bag to allow for shoes, etc. in case.

Honestly, both worked fine.

I fly with my clubs all the time on various airlines (Mostly Delta and Southwest) and haven't had any issues. I wouldn't be concerned.
