Thanks Luke and Matt for sending the proto balls through. I have been using them the last couple of weeks alongside the Pro V1 (my normal ball) and the AVX which I occasionally use.
I found the new Pro V1 to be slightly longer than the current one and about the same as the new Pro V1X. Both were slightly shorter than the AVX although, for the most part, the difference was only around 10 yards.
In terms of spin, I thought the new Pro V1 definitely spun more than the old one, and was more evident on short shots that you would expect to check and release.
As I don’t really use the V1X, I can’t really comment on the amount of spin, when comparing to the previous model. However spin was good and delivered decent check, similar to the new V1.
When putting I must say I didn’t really notice any difference with the new V1 compared to the old, the V1X felt clickier as others have said, but again, I can’t really compare against the old V1X as I rarely use it.
This week I played at Royal St Georges and the wind was up. Both myself and my playing partner noticed that the new V1 was stable in the wind, when compared to the old V1.
On one hole with a stiff breeze coming across us we both hit a wedge at the left hand side of the green (pin with middle/right half). The old Pro V’s ended up off the right hand side of the green but the new ones pitched and held in the middle. Having said that neither could compare to the AVX which is incredible in the wind.
In conclusion, at my level (11) I would say I would not always notice small differences in performance of things like golf balls but the differences between the old V1 and the new were obvious to me.
Looking forward to trying them more.
