Buying new wedges. Should you get a 52 and bend it to 53, or get a 54 and bend it to 53?

  2. Trent,

As most will suggest it will depend on what amount of bounce you like. As you change the loft you also change the bounce. For example, if the 52 you get has 8* of bounce and you bend it up to a 53, the bounce will go up to 9*. The same holds for bending it down. If you get the 54 and it has 12* of bounce and you bend it down to a 53 then the bounce go down to 11*. So whatever version you get just be aware that the bounce will change with the bending.

If the wedge below that is a 48* then I would think about what degrees difference you want between your wedges. My stock wedges that that come with my T300s are 43, 48, 53 and my Vokey is a 58.12D, which also serves as my sand wedge. I do not think that 1* is going to matter that much at our level. I had a 52* stock with my previous set of AP1s in August and had the 58* and never gave it a second thought. Did/do not use that number very often.

Suggest purchasing it thru a shop that has some that you can demo and see which one you like the best, the 52 or the 54.......

I tend to go in the direction of bending strong. I have a 58-08M that I bent to 56*. Excellent in a variety of conditions including soft sand.

Chuck makes a good point.Demo first, then decide.

I’d agree with Chuck and try them both out. I’ve been all over the place with wedges. Used to have a 47, 52, 56, 60 set up then switched to a 47, 54, 58 set up. Recently got new irons and wedges (I always play the same PW as my iron set, got the 718 AP2’s at a great price so that’s what I’m gaming now) so my set up now is 46, 50, 54, 60. Good luck!
