Hi, Currently have SM8's in slate blue and love them, but needing to switch to graphite or softer shafts to manage tendon/joint issues. Is it possible to switch out of the standard S200 shafts (132g) into a 110g Steelfiber and not mess up the feel? I tried a buddies wedge with this shaft (not a Vokey) and it felt awfully light when chipping/pitching etc. Basically looking for any other fitting / shaft recommendations in the 110-125 range that can help me to manage the impact on my elbows via wedges. Thanks, Tony

Not sure how relevant this may be to you. I mentioned this in another post fairly recently.

I switched to Aerotech Steelfiber i95s from AMTs in my T200s late last year and absolutely love them. Not to mention, my joints rarely have any pain after a round, unlike before the switch. So, they have definitely made a difference in that regard. However, I did NOT switch out my wedges, considering I have been playing the S200 in all my Vokeys since around 2008. I'm so comfortable with the S200s in my wedges after so long, I have no desire to change them. And, since the Steelfibers in my irons alone seemed to have taken such a load off my joints, I'm fine continuing to play steel S200s just like always in my two primary chipping and pitching tools. Though I use my 54* and 60* for full shots when necessary, most swings with them are less than full. So my joints don't usually take much stress when using those two wedges. (I am, however, considering changing my Vokey GW to a Steelfiber, since I use that more for full shots.)

Thanks Doug, I did consider this or switching to softer/lighter steel but having had to sit out half of last season with elbow issues I want to take every precaution I can not to have a repeat.

Aerotech-Steel Fiber does make a 125 gram constant weight shaft that should get close on static weight. I don't know how stiff they play compared to the Dynamic Gold. There aren't a lot of options in graphite in that weight range. They can be pricey as well, so it can turn into an expensive experiment if decide you don't like them. I have elbow issue too and have settled on KBS Hi Rev 2 shafts for my wedges. I don't play a ton of golf anymore, but these don't seem to bother me after a round or practice session. Good luck, I hope you find something that offers a little relief.

Thanks Paul. How do you find the Hi Rev's? I like to flight my wedges in low, does the KBS launch high?
I'm leaning towards SF 125's in regular or hard stepped once as everything I read says they are pretty stout.
My new irons are arriving soon in SF 110's, stiff but soft stepped once. I'll be able to try the PW and GW in those for full swings but I'm still thinking of heavier/potentially a little softer for the SW/LW given the use on partial shots and around the greens.
  6. Tony, what did you end up doing? I play the SF 110's stiff ss 1x in my T-100's. I have had them in my last 3 sets of irons and have not looked back (I can't believe the negativity aimed at the 110's on other blogs, but I tried the 95's and the 110's work better for me.) I am now looking to put graphite in my 54 and 58 since 75% of my range time is with these and my joints take a beating. I have been playing KBS 610 wedge shafts (115g) in both without performance complaints. I was looking at FC115's or perhaps the i125's.

    Hi Tony
How did you go with the i110’s with swing weight and did you put the 125’s in your wedges ?
  8. I have no experience of Aerotech but have Recoil 95's in my irons and ordered the same shaft in new Vokey SM7's (50/54/58). I found them fine for full shots but a disaster for half or touch shots. For me the heads felt far too heavy relative to the shaft and overall weight. Even having them rebuilt to reduce weight in the heads while an improvement, was a disappointment. This may have changed with more recent Vokey models but I would advise getting a fitting with the desired shaft, including testing for touch shots, before spending a lot of money.
