2009 Vokey Spin Milled. 60 degrees loft, 7 degrees of bounce

It may be the first year of the Spin Milled. Going by memory here, so don't bet the farm on it.

This looks like the early spin milled with the square grooves, which was probably like 2009 ish. I believe this is a wedge that is now non conforming in any kind of official competition like a pga tour event or a usage qualifier or anything like that. I wouldn't worry about it if your not playing in any of those things. The next wedges that cam out were the Spin Milled -CC (condition of competition) to get the grooves back to conforming. I think the red paint in the spin milled is the best way to identify it.

Yes, as others have said, that looks like a 2009 version. Back then, square grooves were the norm. However, the rules changed at the end of 2009 and these were no longer allowed in high level pro and Am events. Fortunately, the rule did not affect the majority of us and we were able to continue using square-grooved wedges up until 2020 to stay within the rules, though they were no longer available at retail. (In my opinion, the 2010 CC, SM4 and SM5 were never as good as the 2009 SM.) So, after 2010, I was able to find new 2009 versions all over the internet and continued to stock up on them until the cost for new ones went through the roof, as the on-line supply dwindled to very low availability. They were selling for $300 or more, per wedge! By that time the SM6 was a pretty close match (spin-wise) to the 2009 version and I finally gave in, purchasing SM6, then SM7s, 8s and now 9s. Each version, a touch better than the previous.

If you play USGA-sanctioned events today, the 2009 SM is no longer within the rules. But if you are just out there playing golf and having fun, maybe playing in a local league or betting a few bucks with your regular buddies, I wouldn't worry too much about it. By now, if your 2009 wedge has been used a lot over the last 12 years, you are gaining no advantage with it. Overall though, it is one of the best versions of the SM line ever produced.
