Not sure if anyone from Titleist actually see's this or if there is a better "suggestion box" place, but having received the email today with data on "Groove Wear & Spin Performance" if Titleist did a lease or renew type program for wedges so it was more cost effective to keep a fresh wedge around the 75 rounds played. Having a direct, straight forward program to turn in my used wedges for new or to have a new head installed on the shaft if you wanted to save a bit. Similar process to car leases if you always want a newer car but don't want to deal with the buy/sell/trade process.

So if they had a lease program they would have to handle the additional costs of the trade and resale side and potentially there would be lower sales of new wedges. That would impact current operating costs and profit levels which in turn would likely force them to increase the overall cost of wedges. I can't see them wanting to go down that path. A big difference between a $40K car and a $200 wedge. Good news is that you can trade in wedges at places like 2ndswing.com or other golf shops or even sell them yourself and apply the proceeds to new wedges.

With cars you're dealing with the dealership, not the manufacturers. I don't think Titleist wants to get into the used club business. If you really want to go that route, it would have to be the retail suppliers.
Bigger point is, where can I get my hands on the wedge robot, and is it within the rules to use it during a round? I could see that as a definite improvement to my overall game.

How I keep my wedges in game condition is by practicing full swings on the ranger with previous models I owned. We are not tour players and do not play in the same demanding course conditions as the players will see this week at LACC. 75 rounds, could be a 3 year cycle for most recreational players. For more serious players, hold onto wedges for practice purposes and keep those grooves for the course.
  5. So I should be changing my wedges every couple of months

No doubt the Titleist report created some serious head scratching. Whether it is 75 or 150 rounds, the performance declines so slowly that the change is barely noticeable.
The recommendation applies to golfers interested in max performance in their short game. Someone playing a lot of amateur tournaments needs to know this. At 15+ handicap, probably not the most important factor in scoring.
  7. I replace wedges as needed each year; I view wedges as disposable and update my wedges at least once a year as required. IMHO

Interesting idea though if I could trade them in each year!

I’m with Chris. I put new wedges in the bag at the beginning of each season (or 100 rounds). New grooves allow you got get max benefit around the greens.

The guys that I play with in my senior group are always asking when I am getting new wedges. They know they can get a good deal on my old wedges and they really do not care that they are used. Normally higher handicaps 15+ and above. For the regular recreational golfer do not think the idea would would fly and for the better golfer they are going to buy new wedges, as Chris does. You can always trade them in at any golf shop that is a Titleist account for new ones. They will give you a trade in value based on the blue book for golf clubs at PGAValueguide.com. That option is already there, but NOT thru Titleist direct. Just like cars they drop in value quickly.
  11. I have had the same wedge for almost 2 years now, will getting it changed drastically change the spin I get around the greens? I have held back on getting a new one cause I just upgraded a lot of the other clubs in my set. I practice almost everyday especially during the summer.

Depends on how much play it's seen.
I replace mine every series (2 years) and all I can say is there's nothing like a brand new wedge around the greens.
