  1. Just wondering if the "EXP 01" is really the "Tour Soft" with a urethane cover? I play the Tour Soft because of the feel but need to adjust for the lack of spin.
  2. Here we go.....I went ahead & bought a dozen EXP-01 balls last week even though I'm a member of Team Titleist. I really wanted to test this ball. Ive played 18 3Xs in the last 2 weeks here in Central Illinois. Weather has been in the mid 50s. on a few days.

Current ball AVX, Driver 915 D2, Fairway Woods 915s, Irons cally Rogue, Wedges Vokey Spin milled & Putter Scotty Mil Spec. Handicap 11.2

Driver: Longest drives Ive hit this year. Ball flies straight with low spin. Higher ball flight than id like but cant argue with the distance.

Fairways: Same high trajectory & low spin but still excellent distance.

Irons: Distance was comparable to AVX flight maybe a little higher than ProV1 but not much. Feel off irons was soft, which I prefer and the ball sat on the greens like we expect from a ProV1.

Wedges: Exceptional spin, possibly more so than the ProV1. Cover is soft, Vokey wedge really ate into them from 80- 100 yards.

Putter: Fantastic feel on greens, very soft but rolls out.

Verdict: You absolutely must try this ball! You won't be able to buy it next season for $40. I cant wait to play this ball in 80+ degree weather & firm fairways.

  3. Love this new Titleist ball. I have tried and played with them all, including other brands such as cally, Taylor Made, etc and this EXP 01 ball overall performed the best of all for me. Definitely equal to or better then the ProV1 and much better then the AVX from tee to green. Also really love the feel of it, chipping and putting. Without a doubt, will always play with this new Titleist ball, if they decide to make it part of their permanent product line of balls.

It would be interesting to see a comparison chart of all the available Titleist premium balls to see ball flight, spin rate and such details.
  5. I bought and played all 12. Like the overall performance of the EXP01. I did however have an issue with the cover getting torn up even hitting a 7 or 8 iron! Still on the fence if I would recommend them to somebody else.
  6. I've usually play the TourSoft, but picked up a box of these on a whim. For me, there was better launch off the tee with the driver, and the ball flew higher and went a little farther. With the long to mid irons, i noticed it going a bit straighter, but I'd lose a little distance compared to the TourSoft. Short iron and around the green the ball was just as soft, or even softer feel than the TourSoft, and spin was just the same. I did notice though the cover is a bit softer, as I've had to replace balls after a couple of holes. I do love the ball flight with the driver with these, as I've been able to clear areas I usually have to go around with the TourSoft. Good ball, the EXP-01, and I hope we can do the custom numbers on them eventually.
  7. I really want to try it out. I love the AVX but sometimes it hurts me around the greens or on long approach shots with lack of spin.

I am wondering if the 2020 AVX is this ball?

No. The AVX was in production by the time this was released. The EXP will be involved with the next generation o Pro V’s. It may or may not be integrated in the final design.
  10. I got this ball on a whim at Golf Galaxy. It was on the counter and I asked about it. All I got was "its some experimental ball" I picked up a dozen and played them the next day. I was in love by the 5th hole. It has great feel, awesome distance, and it plays very well around the greens. It is by far my favorite Titleist ball I have played. The only downside I can see is that, for an experimental ball, its a little on the pricey side, but I guess thats golf! I think if you want to reach the masses, make it a great deal financially. If its plays well, and I'm proves someones game, they will pay full price when it actually comes to market.
  11. High handicap slow swing speed senior golfer. Played with exp 01 today. Long for me off the tee. Great feel around the greens. Love this ball . A ProV for old folks!
  12. Got hold of a dozen of these proto type Titleist golf ball don't know anything about them. Played a practice round with this and a few different balls like the AVX and the Pro V and I have to say it stands along side both. Equal spin of the Pro V and the distance of the AVX . Can I find out more ? I know it says on the box it has a different cover but it feels softer than either of the other two to me. The Pro V's of a few years ago had a softer feel than todays PRO V and this one feels much like that???

  13. Bought a dozen EXPs about three weeks ago. First hole in one yesterday. Great ball flight, good control. And I think a little more distance off the tee. Great value

Bought a dozen in March. Loved them and bought a couple more. Been playing very well with it and have the scores to show for it Excellent driver distance with good short game performance and stopping power on full iron shots. Wanted to order some more and I see they are no longer available. Will this ball be brought to market?
  15. You and I must have tried different experimental balls. My experience could not have been more different.

I play the Prov1 regularly and I can’t wait to get back to them after I finish this dozen. The feel off my putter with the EXP was too hard and the distance control on the green was very inconsistent. I don’t notice any appreciable difference in green side control with my wedges compared to the Prov1, but again they just felt very hard. Seems to jump more on shorter feel shots.

No complaints off the tee with my driver or fairway wood. Flight and distance were solid, which I would have expected from the much harder feel.

I would have to think these balls are a proto to replace something like the velocity, which I am not a huge fan of.

I’d much rather play the trusoft or whatever they are called these days. At the very least those were very soft and consistent on the greens. One other thing I noticed is that they provided a lot of negative feedback on thinner shots. I regularly thin my 3 iron off the tee on shorter pars 4s (on purpose) to get a good 250 shot - wouldn’t be doing that with these balls as it felt awful.

  16. Not an authority on the differences between golf balls, but have hit a lot over my time and always like Titleist the best. Love the AVX ball, but not like this.
EXP-01 is the best ball I've ever played. Feel is exceptional, flight stays straight and seems to react true to the strike, limiting side spin and maximizing backspin. Seems to make good shots better and bad shots (slices, hooks) not as bad.
Feel off the putter is terrific and seems to roll dead true. Buying multiple dozens to give to some of my golf buddies.

Don't panic when you see EXP-01 gone from the shelves and listings. It is now been formalized into production as the Tour Speed. Now we again have the multiple options in the second-tier price range like the old NXT Tour and NXT Tour Soft. Enjoy!
  18. Have now played about 5 rounds with the EXP-01 and really love the feel. The distance is about the same as I got with Pro V1 ( a little shorter then Pro-V1x) but straighter with better control. Greenside spin just a touch under Pro V1 but not much. Where this ball shined was on putting. I loved the soft feel of the ball. I went out to Dick’s and bought 3 dozen while they still have them in stock. Hopefully Titleist let’s us know what this ball will be called if it is moved from experimental to stock.

Tour Speed was based on the EXP-01.

My experience was quite different. Been playing the Pro V1 with excellent all around results. So, this year I ordered three dozed with custom numbers. Surprise! Titleist changed the ball. Now, higher spin and compression seems different; just does not perform for my game. Tried the new AVX, it doesn’t go compared the the old ones; so I don’t know where Titleist gets it’s data of more distance and less spin. Same with the Pro V1x left dash. Maybe the new Titleist Pro V1 left dot. Hate to move away from Titleist but, ………. Some times the old adage, “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” is best.
