I live in Western PA so almost every track we play is hilly so we take carts most the time. I’m making a trip to pinehurst and play No. 2, 3, 4, 8 and then Tobacco Road in June. I was just looking for recommendations on a good walking shoe because the ones I currently have I worry won’t be good for walking. Any suggestions are appreciated!

The one you try on at the golf store, seriously, but FJ Icons do it for me!

A question to reply to your question. First, do you prefer shoes with spikes or spikeless? For walking, I would seriously recommend high stability platforms over pure comfort platforms. That means no Superlites, for example. Spend a few extra dollars for good shoes. Your feet will appreciate it at the end of the day. Spikeless, I think the Pro SL Carbon is a good option. Or some of the Premier series. With spikes, maybe something in the Premier or Traditions series would be my suggestion. I'm not sure about the Hyperflex styles.

Good luck, have a great trip!

So I’m not indifferent towards spikes or spikeless. I have mostly soft spikes because pa is hilly and wet a lot. But tbh they aren’t great on the feet. I have a pair of swoosh and jootjoy boa that are soft spike. A pair of adidas also soft spike. I’m not money bags or anything but price is not something I’m worried about because I’d rather have quality or quantity. It’s just the most walking well ever do golf wise and I know the shoes I currently own would not cut it lol.

I really like the tarlow but I have never owned a pair. They look like dress shoes in regards to the heel and was curious if they dug into the heel when you walk?

I agree with Thomas, shell out some money for a quality shoe. I bought a pair of the black Pro/SL Carbon shoes (spikeless, which is my first spikeless shoe, and the traction is better than any pair of soft spike shoes I've ever owned) and I loved them so much that I bought a white pair as well. My only advice is to wear them several rounds before you get to Pinehurst, because these shoes were the hardest to break in that I've ever owned. They destroyed my feet the first time I wore them, but now they fit like a glove. They are a little on the narrow side in the toe box.

The new footjoy traditions are my go to…the wing tip version is classic and comfortable. Give it a whirl and you’ll be happy.
  8. FootJoy Hyper Flex might be the most comfortable golf shoe I’ve ever worn.

I recently got a pair of these FootJoy Contour Casual shoes and I really like them. They’re a very comfortable shoe for walking.

If you're interested in looking outside FJ (which I love and have several pairs of) the Cuater shoes are my favorite. Checkout the Ringer - worth every penny. I've walked probably 30-40 rounds in them and they're still holding up nicely. They feel like tennis shoes and are 100% waterproof which is a must for me since I play early in the morning a lot. Their newest shoe Moneymaker - Luxe has certainly got my attention too.

Since you'll be in the south in the summer time, you may want a lighter and more breathable shoe (not waterproof) but my favorite to wear in the summer afternoons are the FJ Coastals. Unreal comfort and you can wear them to dinner after.

I really like the Hyperflex or the Icons for walking.

Sounds like a great trip. Have fun and play well.
  14. Love my Ecco's. Favorite golf shoe I've ever owned and very comfortable to walk in.

I got the Footjoy Hyperflex this last year with the BOA system, right out the box I walked 18, fantastic shoes. Wore them all summer and I walk all of my rounds, never an issue with comfort, feet felt great after 18. They are really stable in the swing, and for me, they look fantastic.

Being a traditionalist, I have always loved FJ DryJoys Tour, and now the new Premier editions. They've always fit and been very comfortable right out of the box for me. Riding or walking. Quality shoes with a solid 2-year warranty. I've had dozens of pairs over the years in all sorts of color combinations and custom MyJoys designs.

Maybe it is that the changing golf fashion trends over the last few years are finally beginning to get through my steadfast traditionalist views, but I began to notice the new Contour Casuals from 2021 more and more, ultimately deciding to try a pair for myself. My intention was not to actually play golf in them, but rather to wear them "casually" out on the town or practicing on the range. Yet, one day I wore them out on the course and really loved how comfortable they were. Unfortunately, from my classic fashion perspective, they don't "go with" traditional golf pants. So, I have been wearing them with the newer 5-pocket slimmer-style golf pants that seem to be taking over the course, and am slowly becoming more comfortable with this more modern look. Surely, they will go well with shorts, too, once the warm weather returns. For now, I have been purchasing a variety of 5-pocket golf pants in various colors, just so I can wear the Contour Casuals over the winter. I'll save my DryJoys and Premieres for my regular cut golf pants.

So, I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks.

Pro SLs with BOA lacing simply the best. The new Fuel shoes could change that.

BOA lacing...why would I go back 2 shoe laces?

The best golf shoe for walking for me are Ecco Biom Hybrid 3's, but, for you? You really need to try on golf shoes to find the ones that fit you the best.

I've ordered 2 pair of Custom My Joys spikeless. They're great on mostlt flat courses and not all that expensive.

A big plus not having to change in and out of shoes to drive to the course.

My go to is the FJ Tour X BOA. Extremely comfortable and very stable. I am also a big FJ ICON fan.

I think there are two primary criteria for determining the best shoes for you - specifically spiked vs. spineless, and size. Just like being fit for clubs is recommended, I would strongly suggest getting fit for golf shoes. It can be as simple as using the brannock device find the right size and width, and then trying on the shoes to see what you like the best.

If you are able to try the shoes in a simulator, you will see differences based on the fit of the shoes. You might have the right size, but the wrong width - this will lead to more shot dispersion. A wrong size will likely lead to distance issues.

In my opinion, you can’t go wrong with any of the FJ shoes. Specifically though, the Traditions, Hyperflex and now the new FJ Fuel are some of the most comfortable shoes for walking. If you’re looking for something else that is spikeless you can try the FJ Flex. Either way, they’re all great options and will keep your feet happy and healthy.

I was once told that the secret to a happy life is comfortable shoes. I have a couple pairs of Classics that I love. I am looking at getting a new pair of the FJ Alphas with single BOA.

And this, Team Titleist members, is why FJ has so many different styles of golf shoes. Something for everyone as individual needs and preferences lead us to different styles. I'm also partial to BOA lacing!

Tons of good advice… Love my FJ ProSL’s, but I also love my swoosh AirZoom Infinity’s. Most important thing is to skip Pinehurst #8 and play PineNeedles/MidPines/ Southern Pines GC… 2,3,4 are a must play. T-Roads is a cool novelty to play three times, but they have some attitude problems over the years, over book, 6 hour rounds… nobody needs to spend 6 hours in Sanford NC.
