I look at this 4 ways. One way is how many strokes do you take to hole out from your approach shot? Scratch player would average 3. Are you averaging 28, 32, or 36 putts around? Getting to or under 32 moves a 90 player into the 80s.
The other way is how many greens in regulation can you hit with no more than a six iron. If you're using 5I or longer consistently, then you need more distance or play it forward. Are you in the fairway with driver 60% of the time or more. These are areas you can pick out to improve. If you can have a shot at a GIR 50% of the time, then you have enough distance.

LWeir you should definitely work on getting more distance. A lot of the gains can be made easily by correcting some concepts and changing your intentions. Pair that up with improving the strike and tightening up attack angle and face to path relationship and you could be picking up 20-30 yards in no time. Plus the game is more enjoyable when you hit it longer.

Does anyone else resent being called a "weekend golfer"? I'd be golfing if I didn't have to work & I go to the range on my lunch break. At any rate, I need more distance. I'm just getting to where I consistently hit 150+ yards on the drive, and I can assure you, most of my strokes are lost between there and the green.

If you can still reach the greens in reg then short game for sure

I value hitting greens and making putts over distance. You can save so many strokes if you have those down. Distance off the tee is great for show but a low score is even more impressive in my book.
  6. The conventional wisdom in golf has always been that the long game is important, but your short game is where scoring actually occurs. The famous saying, “Drive for show, putt for dough” has been muttered a million times over the years.

Distance is definitely advantageous, however, I would prefer to lead my group in GIRs or fairways hit than driving distance.

My 2 cents, leave your driver alone as long as it is down the middle. Fine tune your irons and putter. those are the only clubs you use every hole. Unless you ace it.
