My lowest golf round ever

    In today's second round at TPC Boston, DJ was 11 under after 11 holes. He could have easily shot 59 or even 57 with the way he was playing. I was rooting for him to make it, but he ended up with a 60.

    My lowest round ever has been a 78 in a par 72 golf course. This has been the only time I've broken 80, and I can still remember how good it felt.

    What has been your lowest round ever?

    I've shot a 62 before, which was 8 under on the course. But a 65 on another course, is what I consider my best round.

    82. Been knocking on the door to break 80 for years. Hopefully someone will answer.

    Good topic, you always remember your best round. Unfortunately, mine was over 25 years ago. On the final hole, I three putted for a 1 over 72. The round was marred due to a temporary green. My lowest official round was a 75 that same summer.

    I've shot 68 a few times on par 70 courses, but on a par 72 course, my lowest round was a 69;North Shore Country Club, Sneads Ferry NC, just outside Camp Lejune back in 2001. After shooting 37 (1 over) on the front, I shot 32 (-4) on the back. After a bogey on 11, I went birdie-eagle-birdie on holes 12-14, and picked up another birdie on 17 going -5 for my last 7 holes.

    Never had a stretch like that before, and probably never will.

    A few days after my 68th birthday I shot a 69. Boogied number 18. My goal was to shoot my age once my buddy told me where I stood on the tee box on number 18. Told him not to every tell me my score again, he normally kept score in our matches. I kept a card but did not add them up until the match was over. First and only time to shoot in the sixties. Good karma that day and the greens were perfect. Am way to inconsistent to shoot sub par scores. It is the six inches between the ears.

    That's a great story, Chuck. I hope I get to break 80 again. As you do, I never add up until I finish playing. I think it's the best strategy to keep the six inches between ears out of the game.

    Even though I have shot scores lower than this on occasion at my home course (senior tees), this is one that I am most proud of. June 13, 1997, Championship Tees (not the tour tournament tees), The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, I posted a 77. Knew it was going to be a special day when I birdied the first hole. It is a par 72 course and the slope is a 142 from that tee. Shot 1 over on the front and 4 over on the back. That round is pretty special to me. Have the card on one of those "The day I played the Ocean Course plaques". A friend worked for the company that makes them and gave it to me.

    That is an amazing story, Chuck. I had never thought about keeping the cards as a memento which is something I'll start doing as of today although my scores are not as good as yours :)

    Playing Pete Dye's Ocean Course at Kiawah Island is on my bucket list. The closest I've been to the turf was when my dad and I went to the 2012 PGA Championship. I would like to go again next year when the Wanamaker Trophy returns to such an incredible venue.

    Was there lead Hole Captain hole number ten. Rory roasted that course in the rain and delays. What a logistics disaster. Will be there again next year. Hoping to be there working in the merchandise tents or the clubhouse for a major golf apparel and shoe company.

    Shooting your lowest, does not matter the number, fells great, I am still a good improvement away from breaking 80, I shot 87, 85 and a stunning 81 this year so far, the lowest 81 was a round where everything went right for me, the ball kicked the right way on the greens and roughs were pretty tammed, even the bunker shots were one and outs.
    Just keep working on it.
    Bu more to the point, DJ put a golf clinic this weekend, 30 under, 11 shots clear of second it is insane, I could be wring, but this might be the lowest score every registered by a pro on the mainland.

    I totally agree with you, Elson. DJ's game was incredible. He reminded me of the years when Tiger played above and beyond the other Tour players.

    As for my game, I am trying to stay away from 90. So far, I have been able to accomplish this not so easy mission, however, I would like to break 80 again.

    I totally agree with you, Elson. DJ's game was incredible. He reminded me of the years when Tiger played above and beyond the other Tour players.

    As for my game, I am trying to stay away from 90. So far, I have been able to accomplish this not so easy mission, however, I would like to break 80 again.

    I hope this post isn't repeated. I hit SEND on the last one and we lost power for a few minutes while it was in the process of sending. When I rebooted, I could not tell if it actually was sent. So, I apologize if two of the same posts show up....

    74 on a Par 72 Championship course with a slope of 137 from the blue tees I played. My home course. US Open Qualifier site 10 of the last 21 years. I've shot lower scores on other courses, but this one still stands out the most to me. In my head, it’s the lowest compared to the difficulty of par. I actually have three 74s here and many 75s, but only one of the three 74s happened when the course was playing close to the US Open qualifying standards.

    I shot 74 on a par 71 course in 30 mph winds when I was 60 years old. I have also had two even par 9 hole rounds. The last one was at the Palmer Course at the Villages two years ago.

    Double eagle on 18th hole for an even par 72 with a Pro V1X of course... probably should have retired right then and there (but I went out and played the next day).

    What a story. That is the beauty of golf. By the way, what was your score on the following day?

    That's why I admire tour pros who play well once a year or once in a lifetime and win a PGA tournament. At the same time, I admire pros who are money machines and make cuts week in and week out.

    Some of us play the same course week in and week out and cannot break 80. That's why I have opted to play different golf courses; it's a good excuse :)

    Shot a 72 on my 'home course' a few years ago...relatively short course but tricky greens.

    I started out strong and kept it rolling.
    Exciting finish as I was even going into #16 - made a birdie, now -1. #17 I had a great drive, left with about 140 yards downhill, came up a bit short and was in the fringe. Messed up my chip, then chipped short to a tricky pin...walked away with a double.

    Now I am +1 going into the last hole, par 5.

    Good drive, can reach with a 3 wood - but trouble right (I miss there alot) or I can layup and play it safe.

    I hit a great 3 wood and end up just off the green, right, pin high. 20 foot putt, just misses for eagle - end up with a birdie and a 72.

    I remember that I was getting up and down from everywhere that day.

    Since that round I had gotten fitted for a new driver, and irons - upgraded my equipment as I definitely had ill fitted clubs before.

    And I was playing with some random beat up Slazinger ball.

    I have not shot such a low round again in the last 2 years...(did have a 74 and a 75 though). Go Figure.

    Shot 64 twice on different courses in casual golf but I consider the 68 in competition play setting new amateur course record the best.

    Once I get thru all these back issues I will be very happy shooting in the 80's and just make it thru 2020. So far two rounds and my clubs are grounded again.

    73 one over on my home course. Three putted 18 for a bogey. Perfect drive off the tee nice second shot to the middle of the green. Pin was a real sucker pin, first putt left me with a 5 foot downhill putt. Par putt did a 360 sitting on the lip looking back at me. Still looking for that ever elusive even par round.

    Best round for me was an 84 at my home course. Not much fell in the way of putts for me that day, could have easily broken 80 in my opinion based on ball striking. Working with my instructor to try to make some changes so the ball striking is more consistent and putting improved so that I can get there and break 80.

    I shot a 72 in July 2020 at Sandia Golf Course and Resort in New Mexico! My best score ever! And I did it with a ProV1 that I had bought with the custom number of 72...as inspiration this year to shoot even par. It finally happened! It was fantastic!

    64 last year - I was 58 at the time. Played 36 that day at 2 different courses. Beat my buddy 3 ways - twice! Cha-Ching!

    82. Last month. Have been in the mid 80s this summer but last year and the start of this year I was hitting mid 90s and up. Took a few lessons and spent more time on the range. The biggest game changer for me (and most I would believe) was chipping around the greens - giving myself one putt opportunities. I still need some bump and run refinement but standard chips and flops are dialed in for the most part.
