I’ve never been fitted for wedges and have usually relied upon research and previous experience to determine what might work best for me. But I’ve read that it’s advantageous to have the lie angle of your wedges be flatter than your irons, perhaps as much as two degrees. What would be your take on that? Thank you for your time.

Should the shafts of Vokey Wedges ideally match a player’s iron shafts or should they be a different weight and/or flex? Thanks

Many players like to match their iron shafts with those wedges they play full shots with. As you get closer to the green though, we like to see the shaft become a little softer to promote more feel on those greenside shots.

Hi Bob. Thank you for taking the time to answer all of our questions. After all the years of creating the brand Vokey, when was the moment you knew it had changed the game of golf? Comparing to older model wedges.

Can you explain turf interaction on square versus rounded leading edge and where each one would be the preferred choice.

When I ordered new clubs, instead of getting the PW with the set, I got another Vokey wedge instead, the same loft, 46deg and the same length spec of the clubs ordered. Do you think I can expect the same general distance from the Vokey as the one that would come with the set? , while I get more performance options ?

Thanks for taking our questions. You are obviously an innovator with wedges and you've taken designs to a new level. Has there been a TOUR pro or individuals that have really challenged or pushed your thinking to create new products?

Bob, first off I am a lifelong Titleist guy, in the past (way in the past) Titleist made sets of clubs that went 3-LW, I know your wedges are better than stock wedges included in an iron set. But for the higher handicap players that would use a game improvement iron probably can take advantage of the Vokey wedges, they would need more help and forgiveness. But Titleist irons now only go up to PW or W2 then you have to add Vokey. For those players in this boat which grinds would be best for them, what bounce would be the closest match to lets say a T300 wedge?

    Hello Bob-

Thank you for taking my question. Will the specs of my current wedges transfer into the SM8's or should I get fitted for the new wedges?

    Current set:
    SM7
    Raw Finish
    58-08, M grind
    54-16, K grind
    48-10, F grind

How does adding or removing weight in the head affect spin, trajectory and distance? How can a player test this without damaging clubs?

This may fall a bit into an instruction type question, but I am interested to hear your thoughts.

On short shots around the green say 10 yards or less, should a player use one wedge and learn different length strokes and ball placement with it. Or should we use a different wedge for different shots and keep the same length stroke for the most part.
  12. Hey Bob,

Have you ever made a perfect wedge?

Hi Bob, thanks for taking time to answer our questions. I was fitted into the K grind (58) and had no issues in the winter or in bunkers. As the the course firmed up and grass was cut tighter (bermuda grass in GA), I had issues hitting it clean as the bounce seemed to much. I went to the low K and things have been great. While i understand bounce and the pros change based on grass setup etc, do you see pro's and low handicaps changing bounce as the weather conditions change around their home course?

    Cheers!!!

Mr Vokey, met you at the Vokey Experience at Pinehurst. You and your team put me in the RIGHT wedge and I really appreciate it. Am a senior player and the SM7 58.12D (Grind Nippon NS Pro 950 GH R) has been a great addition. I play the T300 irons and use the T300 53 wedge and am considering a Vokey to replace it and would like you expert opinion which of the new wedges would you recommend. My next wedge down is a 48 stock. I hope that we will see you at our TT event at Pinehurst in September. With respect.

    Hi Mr. Vokey,
'Love your wedges, sir, and I've been a fan for a while now and will probably be till the end of my golfing time.
I carry three wedges whenever I go out: SM8-58-08M, SM8-54-08M, (or SM8-54-10S), and SM6-50-08F. I benefit more from stiff shafts and now the NS Pro has been a wonderful enhancement.
My question, sir, is about the weight on the 46-10F head. My iron set comes with a 48*, but I would rather have a Vokey to replace it. I've seen tour pros drill holes in the back where the meat of the weight is positioned to lessen the weight of the clubhead, to which I thought was a brilliant idea. 1.) it would pair up nicely with my current set (and a near future T series set that I would like to have) in club weight transition to wedges and 2.) Would this be a doable request in WedgeWork?
If anything at all, sir, I would love to hear your views about the idea.
Thank you very much for your time.

Having had the experience at Pinehurst and going to a Premier fitting site, the bunkers all use sand. The F grind 54 worked great for the fitting. I'm having better luck with a 58 M grind in far more compacted bunkers. I guess I should get a 54 with less bounce for "local" conditions - but the M grind is not a 54 option. Can the fitter account for that without access to tired bunkers?

Generally speaking, how have lie angle and shaft flex of the wedges compared to the irons in a player’s regular set in the fittings you’ve done? My fitter told me that he likes to have the wedges 1 degree flatter but with the same shaft flex as the iron set.
  18. Hello, courses I play are super soft and wet in the spring and very hard and dry in the summer. Is there a specific grind and bounce that bridges the gap or should you have different wedges for different times of year? Or, does the wedge not matter as much as technique?
  19. What is the best bounce for golfers with a shallow attack angle?

It really depends on the shots you’re trying to play and which conditions you’re using the wedge from. In general though, a lower bounce is often best suited to players with shallow attack angles, playing in firmer conditions. I would still recommend getting fit for your wedges to make sure you find the best performing wedges for your game.

What happened to this? Wasn't this supposed to happen 2 days ago? No link for Bob's Q&A anywhere on social media?

Video resonses posted. We'll make sure Bob chimes in early next week. Apologies for the delay everyone!
  23. That’s so cool Bob himself answered my set wedge vs Vokey question! Showed all my colleagues at work today! Thanks for these opportunities to get more immersed and closer to the game that we all love.
