I think the whole combination of foursomes. fourball, and singles, all played out over 3 days is a great format. The adjustment to more captain's picks seems to help now too. Before it was too easy to be in that 7-12 points category from playing well the year before and be off your game closer to the Ryder Cup dates. Now the captain can take that into consideration and pick a few hot players down the stretch. I also think playing 8 per day and resting a few each day works well. It's also a pretty interesting dynamic, to say it's USA versus Europe when so many of the Europeans went to school in the US, now live in the US, many married US citizens, and many play full time on the US PGA Tour. It makes it seem a little strange when there is this new dynamic compared to the days when we only saw European tour players at majors until the Ryder Cup. Can't blame the best players in the world for wanting to follow the money and the greatest competition. Oh well, back to the original point, I think all three formats are key to having this great event and it wouldn't be near as good with just one or two, we need all three.

I have to eat a little crow this time. Our team did very well in foursomes. This years team seemed to have more energy, more of the team concept, plus the youth and number of top players definitely played to our advantage. Seems Capt Strick's pairings really worked out. Feel that this one was a total team effort, from everyone, including the assistant captains being there two weeks early to go over the course and the game plans. As the saying goes; "preparation and opportunity", and they seized the opportunity with class and for team USA. Well done.
