We call those critters polecats where I come from and I believe staying away as far as possible. Better known as a skunk, it can discharge its odor as a mist or liquid and its spray can reach up to 18 feet on windy days (that is six yards for us golfers). Why is skunk smell so hard to get rid of? While it is rather easy to get rid of skunks by relocating them, it is very difficult to get rid of their smell. So what is the best way to remove skunk odor? Myth says use tomato juice, but that isn’t very successful. The Humane Society of the United States recommends a mixture of one quart hydrogen peroxide, one teaspoon dishwashing liquid and a quarter cup baking soda for general cleaning. It works on pets, too. Clean sensitive areas such as eyes with cool running water. Even the baby's can spray, as cute as the kits are. Having been raised on a farm, they love to raid out chicken coups for eggs. TMI, right. Just sayin'. =)
