    I know that distance control is key on wedge play, but how can you control your spin rate with these shots?

    Spin is king on most shots within wedge play. So, if your generating spin, that is a good thing. IF the greens are too soft, then the spin can be detrimental but on the other hand, it is usually the only thing that will stop a ball on firm fast greens. If your not liking your spinning results, try dropping your trajectory and use less loft with less speed.

    Should the advanced player consider having high bounce and low bounce wedges. Either high bounce 56 and low bounce 60, or a high bounce and low bounce of each for differing course conditions?

    I'm 40 yards from the pin in a bunker, moderate lip on bunker.

    I can either try to "nip" the ball without impacting much sand or I can try to create the "small dessert plate", whereby my club enters the sand and post shot I've removed a "small dessert plate" of sand where the ball had been lying.

    Which shot do I play, with what club and what factors should I consider as I assess the ashot to play??

    Perfect time for this topic.

    I am getting new sm8’s this fall. I am playing project x lz 5.0 shafts weighing 110, hard stepped once in my irons at D1.

    Do you recommend going same shafts, but heavier swingweight such as D3 or D4 making the shaft softer to help spin more, or go a little heavier to the 5.5 weighing 115?

    I tried the DG S200 wedge shaft weighing 127 and it’s just to heavy. Thanks and great information and lesson videos!!

    Good question. I have done a thorough investigation on this and the findings are very surprising. Wedge shafts have VERY LITTLE effect on the ball flight. I mean a minuscule amount at best. This is due to the shaft length being short, stiff and heavy coupled with the fact that the shaft droop at impact is negligible with the low swing speeds being used inside of 100 yards. Having said that, I would not go to great efforts to resolve this dilemma. I personally just use the wedge flex TT dynamic gold. If that is good enough for the TOUR players, it is good enough for me! Hope that helps with your decision!

    What is the best way to get a ball to drop and stop when short siding yourself and you don’t want to dump it in the bunker?

    At the ripe young age of 74 I love my Vokey 58.10* R300. Was fitted by Jeremy and Mr Vokey for this club at a Vokey Fitting at Pinehurst last spring. Use it both in the sand and from the fairway. No worries out of the sand but from the 60-70 yard range, if I hit it flush, I have a tendency to always hit it left of my target. I try opening my stance a little more to get thru it down the line, with a smoother swing. Have closed the stance to hit it more to the right of the target line and again left of the target. The distance is consistent. Could it be a hands issue? All my other irons I hit rather straight.

    Rocky Top! My best guess says that you lead edge is closed at impact due to an early release in the hands on the downswing...I would suggest adding shaft lean at impact. That will make the lead edge of the club point further to the right at impact and help resolve the directional issue...
