I’m claiming 14 years as that was when I realized at 59 I was getting well past the “used by date” playing slow pitch softball with co-workers in their 20’s. The outfield was the only place where I could react fast enough to a line drive to not have my head taken off. Golf seemed like a good way to meet kids my own age.
The Shell World of Golf was often watched by uncles, so at one point I bought a used 5 iron and some balata balls (age 13?). Couldn’t hit the ball 120 yards (hitting from the rough behind the football end zone) but the balls sure did smile at me. From then to 59 may have played 20 just awful rounds. Up until late 40’s borrowed/rented right handed clubs. On a whim, bought a set of LH clubs at a department store. So at 61 that set me up to get fitted with Titleist or png for full line LH clubs. That is when I learned Titleist made more than balls. AP1’s just looked better than G10’s that had the broad bottom. Found TT to try to learn more about golf that I knew very little about.

Started playing at age 12 in 1962, so 61 years this summer. My dad handed me a club at the driving range and said here is how to hold it, have fun. Have been having fun ever since.

I fell in love with the game in 1989. Played competitive golf in HS and college. Took a few years off when my daughter was a baby, But she's old enough that she plays now. I'll turn 50 this month, So 20 + years for me.

30+ years. Scuffled along for a while, then got seriously into the game when I started my current job and my boss at that time was an avid golfer.

I have been playing golf for 55 years. Began the summer of 1968 when several of my buddies started playing because their Dads played. I plan to continue playing as long as I possibly can. Headed to Black Diamond in FL later this week for four days. Going to Ireland next July. Golf is a primary incentive for me to take care of myself and try to stay in good shape. Truly, a game for a lifetime.

Oh so many youngsters! I recall first playing in 1956, so that would make it 67 years or so. I was 11 at the time, so figure it out. Lean years during college and early years in the military (two tours in RVN), but have been making up for it since I retired from my second career in 2007. Have never found another sport that challenges me like golf does, provides competitive opportunities for everyone, and can be played by yourself. But the best part of golf is all the people I've met by just walking up to the course to play and being paired with whomever had a spot available.
